Florensis delivers high quality plant material and solutions for the professional grower since 1942. History
Mr. Jan Hamer sr. (1920 – 2005) started his trade in flower seeds in 1942. In the mid seventies this was extended to selling young plants from seed in seedling boxes. The development of an own nursery of 7.000 m2 in Zwijndrecht in 1986 has given the company a tremendous impulse. In 1992 the company relocated to its current location, Hendrik Ido Ambacht.

The young plants were first delivered in seedling boxes; these were later replaced with the polystyrene speed cell. As of January 2006 Florensis delivers young plants in the blue reusable hard plastic tray, which can be used up to eight times. The New Florensis Tray is a perfect fit for the growers’ manual or mechanical production line, the transporters, and naturally for our production in our nurseries.

In 1993 Florensis started selling young plants from cuttings. The production of the mother plants and the rooting is primarily done in Africa and Portugal (mainly Petunia and Calibrachoa). For Petunia related products and specialty items we also cooperate with suppliers that match our hygiene, reliability, and quality level. The assortment consists of annuals and perennials from cuttings in a wide range of product forms that fulfill our customers’ need.

Since the Summer of 2009 Florensis cooperates closely with the American market leader Ball Horticultural Company in the areas of breeding, production, and sales. Part of the cooperation entailed the acquisition of Ball Holland and Ball Deutschland. The cooperation with Ball Hort. Co., together with our breeding in Quedlinburg, has firmly secured the inflow of new and exclusive genetics, now and in the future. In France the sales of Ball Ducrettet are taken over by Graines Voltz, which also distributes seed orders for small to medium sized customers throughout Europe.

Organisation
The Florensis head office and primary production location (7 ha) is located in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. In the peak spring season additional capacity of 15 ha is rented at professional vegetable young plant growers. These companies have stringent quality levels for their regular vegetables young plant production and have an opposite peak period, hence they are perfect partners in supplying the best young plants to our customers. Dedicated Florensis production experts are managing the external locations to ensure quality that matches the Florensis standard. Together with the Cut Flower division, we produce over 800 million plants from cuttings and seed.

New genetics from cuttings and seed are bred at our breeding stations in Germany. Leading genetics such as the Petunia Viva, Gaillardia Gallo, Salvia Sensation, the Sedum Colorfall Series and the wide range of Primula acaulis species, such as the Sphinx, Salome, Cairo, and Luxor, have been developed here.

The production of our cuttings is done with our three subsidiaries in Kenya (since 1999), Ethiopia (since 2006), and Portugal (since 2007).

Our product offering allows our customer to fill up their greenhouses year round. Our assortment in annuals and perennials from seed and cuttings is one of the best and widest in the industry. We closely cooperate with leading breeders, which ensures a reliable delivery of the highest quality input material. By combining our efficient production with reliable partners we can offer our customer the genetic, product form, and delivery window of their choice. Next to rooted cuttings, a part of our business is in unrooted cuttings and seed. We also offer Private Stock possibilities from our African locations, to provide our customer with high quality cuttings at a competitive price.

Our sales are mainly focused on the North European market. Next to our own sales office in The Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, Florensis has joint-ventures, agents or resellers in the other major European countries (e.g. United Kingdom, Franc, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, Poland, Hungary).
